Kissing Doves and Entwined Hearts

It was warm and windy on 14 October when Justin and I headed to the nearby town of Bowning to see four of the six gardens on display in this year’s Yass Valley Open Gardens.

I rarely take conventional pictures for pleasure, but the truly splendid gardens begged for a glossy magazine approach, so I obliged.

These two images were taken at a property called Tullarow, a few kilometres out of town. The two or three acre yard had clearly been designed by a professional with a keen eye for creating a sense journey by visually layering sculptural elements, including water features, statues, gazebos and furniture.

Justin and I agree that listening to the mellow plunk of two harpists while we watched Koi dart around a pond was the highlight. I also liked the whimsical touch of a vintage wrought iron gate on the chook pen, but was a little overwhelmed by the abundance of French provincial seating — I counted nine benches, rocking chairs, swinging chairs and normal chairs!

I’ve just realised I unconsciously chose images with a romantic theme — kissing doves and entwined hearts. That’s obviously what happens when Justin and I go on outings!

Unfortunately these gardens were only open for the one day, but I'm sure we could find something similar to do (apart from check out my own garden!).
